POWER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Power control engineered for reliable vessel operation.
We design and integrate Power Management Systems that coordinate generators, electrical loads and vessel automation to keep power generation stable, efficient and available when it matters.
01 — POWER MANAGEMENT
Keeping the vessel’s power system in balance.
A reliable power system is not simply about starting generators. It is about continuously matching generation, distribution and demand.
Our PMS solutions manage the interaction between generating sets, switchboards and electrical consumers while providing operators with the information and control required to keep the vessel operating safely and efficiently.
Depending on the vessel architecture, PMS can operate as a dedicated power management layer or as an integrated part of a wider Integrated Automation System.
02 — CORE FUNCTIONS
More than generator control.
A modern PMS coordinates the complete electrical power plant. We engineer the control philosophy around the vessel’s generator configuration, operating modes and electrical consumers.
Generator Control
Automatic start and stop sequences, generator availability, operating modes and intelligent control of generating sets.
Synchronisation
Automatic synchronisation of generators and bus sections for controlled connection to the vessel’s electrical system.
Load Sharing
Active and reactive load distribution between generators to maintain stable and efficient operation.
Load Management
Monitoring and control of electrical consumers according to available generation capacity and vessel operating mode.
Blackout Prevention
Power reserve monitoring, automatic generator response and load management strategies designed to reduce blackout risk.
Power Monitoring
Real-time monitoring of generator and switchboard parameters, electrical loads, alarms, trends and operating conditions.
03 — CONTROL PHILOSOPHY
The right power at the right time.
Vessel power demand changes continuously. Manoeuvring, propulsion, cargo operations and hotel loads can all create rapidly changing electrical requirements.
Our control philosophy is developed around these operating conditions rather than treating the PMS as an isolated generator controller.
Automatic Generator Sequencing
Select and operate available generators according to vessel demand, redundancy requirements and operating mode.
Spinning Reserve Management
Maintain sufficient available generation capacity to respond to changing vessel loads.
Load Dependent Start / Stop
Automatically adapt generator availability to the electrical demand of the vessel.
Load Shedding
Prioritise electrical consumers and disconnect selected loads when generation capacity becomes critical.
Operating Mode Management
Adapt PMS behaviour to harbour, sea-going, manoeuvring, standby and other vessel-specific operating conditions.
04 — IAS INTEGRATION
PMS as part of the vessel automation architecture.
Power management does not have to exist as an isolated system. We can integrate PMS functionality with the vessel’s IAS, allowing power generation, distribution and machinery information to be managed through a common automation environment.
This creates a consistent operator interface, unified alarm management and a clearer picture of the vessel’s overall operating condition.
Architecture and communication interfaces are defined according to vessel requirements and the equipment selected for the project.
05 — TECHNOLOGY & INTEGRATION
Flexible architecture. Proven control technology.
We work with established marine power-management technologies while keeping the overall system architecture open to the requirements of each vessel and project.
DEIF Power Management
We can design PMS solutions around DEIF power-management equipment such as the PPM 300 series, integrating generator control, synchronisation, load sharing and power-management functions into the wider vessel automation architecture.
PMS + IAS Integration
Where required, the PMS can be integrated with an IAS, HMI or SCADA environment to provide common monitoring, alarms, trends, commands and operational data.
Industrial Communication
Communication architecture can be designed around the equipment and interfaces available on the vessel, including industrial Ethernet, Modbus, CAN-based communication and other project-specific interfaces.
Vessel-Specific Solutions
Not every vessel fits a standard PMS architecture. We can develop the required control, communication and integration strategy around the actual generator configuration, switchboard and operational requirements.
06 — ENGINEERING APPROACH
From control philosophy to commissioning.
A PMS project is successful only when the control strategy, electrical system and automation architecture work together.
We approach PMS projects as an engineering and integration task rather than simply configuring individual controllers.
System Definition
Generator configuration, switchboard architecture, operating modes, redundancy requirements and control philosophy.
Hardware & Software
Controller configuration, I/O mapping, PLC logic, communication interfaces, HMI and alarm management.
FAT & Integration Testing
Functional testing of generator sequences, synchronisation, load sharing, alarms, protections and system interfaces.
Commissioning & Sea Trials
Onboard commissioning, tuning, troubleshooting, operational verification and support during sea trials.
07 — SERVICE & SUPPORT
PMS support beyond commissioning.
Existing vessels often require changes, troubleshooting or modernization long after the original system was commissioned. We support PMS installations throughout their operational life.
Troubleshooting
Investigation of generator control, synchronisation, communication, load-sharing and PMS-related faults.
Modification & Upgrade
Software modifications, additional generators or loads, interface changes and system improvements.
Onboard Service
Technical assistance for commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and operational support onboard vessels.
